This is the error message I keep getting on my PC at home and cant seem to get past this. I have looked it up and am going to try and find my XP disc at home and try and repair this. Has anyone else experienced this / know what causes it / and know the best way to fix it?

Before you do the :

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

as listed in that link, I would first do chkdisk /R as that cured it for me when I had it. This checks the hard disk and attemptes to correct any problems.
follow the suggestions in reverse order ... check the disc first ... then if no errors are found ... repair

but be prepared to do a full install .... or possibly install a new disc

hard to say why but - generally (in order of how lucky are you feeling)
1 just 1 of those things ... sometimes it happens
2 you switched off (or crashed) and the file system is corrupt
3 Virus ... or careless and deleted wrong file
4 the HDD is either dead or dying

OK, so I had a look last night and can't find the disc anywhere! What can I do without the disc...help!
If you have not sorted it, it might be worth looking in the bios set up first. I have found that sometimes the bios can misplace the information about the hard drive and running auto detect restores it and the computer starts normally after that.
