i have just brought a new netbook one of them small things but call me dumb but there no where to put the disc to downlaod aol so i can get on the net ????

nope they don't have CD/DVD drives.

You don't need the AOL software (in fact it's a blessing you can't install it!)

Just connect it to your router and use the browser that came installed on it and it will work.

my laptop that i have at the mo , I have taken the yellow lead out and put it in the new laptop but it dont fit ? it goes in and out but dont stay clipped in and there no other holes for it to go in ??? do you know why ??

It's a brand new socket, it will probably be tighter than your current laptop one.

what netbook is it?

And is it a USB modem? or a proper router?

its the advent netbook 4213 were using a usb modem ?

this is going to be a problem.

Are you entitled to a free upgrade to a proper router from AOL.... otherwise this is going to be a real pain.

You currently haven't really got the correct gear to connect the netbook as it's expected to be used.

to use USB modem you are going to have to install the drivers.

Which as you've found is tricky when you have no CD drive.

You could download them and install them.. errrr, but you can't get online until you install them

if you had (or if you buy) a router it would be fairly straightforward.

just contacted aol nad weve upgraded to a wireless router ??? this better work the netbook has built in wireles so fingers crossed !! at least no more wires yippppeeee just have to wait ten days for the flippin thing

So now you connect router that is arriving to your phone line.

Forget your current USB modem.

Then you connect by wire your current laptop or desktop. Set up the router, if it isn't already.

Then connect to the router with your netbook.

im confused i thought you wireless router they were sending me , i would have no wires comming out the new netbook ???

the wireless router will have the facility to connect computers to it either by wires or by wireless.

so do the initial setup you will need to connect by wire, then you can go wireless.
