I am having trouble connecting to the internet on my P C through a Netgear wireless adpater and netgear wireless modem. I am on cable and have XP. (Two laptops connect perfectly) I can ping 192.168.1.1 from the P C with good results 4 pkts sent/4 pkts rec lost none. When I click Internet Explorer I get a message "Windows cannot connect to theinternet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. Check the settings for HTTP port 90, HTTPS port 443 and FTP port 21. How do I check these settings and alter them if neccessary? Thanks for any help or advice that can be offered.

Sounds like it could be a firewall issue.

Try disabling your firewall (I think it'll be in Control Panel, perhaps under security settings), just temporarily, and see if that helps.

Once connected to the network (either wirelessly with the dongle, or with a cable), you should be able to type simply '192.168.1.1' into the address bar in IE and have it show the router's login page. No 'http://' or anything like that at the start.

Thanks fo3nix. Tried disabling the firewall but had still had same problem. What was confusing me was I was able to ping yahoo.com from from the address bar okay, but not display the webpage fron I E7. So I then went into tools in I E7 deleted cookies, browing history, went into advanced settings and restored default settings. clicke Applied , closed down and rebooted hey presto I E7 opened webpages. So your suggestion highlighed the problem. Cheers.
