Flashing desktop icons

I have an Advent 8111 laptop XP and the desktop icons keep flashing off and on and I am unable to access anything - not even able to log off and shut down.Is there a solution to this problem. Thank you.

help with brother printer urgently needed.

sounds like a virus or other malware ...
what security packages are you using?

Hi Thank you for your response.
I have Norton Internet Security.

presume up to date and used regularly?

try downloading lavasoft ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and malwarebytes (just google them)
all free ... should be no problem using them alongside norton and each other.
