I am trying to send some photos by email.
There are about 12 in a folder - total 9mb,all saved as JPEG images by Windows.
Let's compress them, I have the inbuilt XP zip utility!
Right click/ send to/compressed folder.
Do you want to designate Compressed Folders as application to handle zip files/ YES!
Zip file created...but it's still 9mb!! What has gone wrong?

Jpegs are already a compressed format... you can't compress them again.

You neede to compress the individual photos so that they take up far less bytes.

Irfanview (free) will do that for you.

Remember the more you compress photos the more quality you lose though.
If the photos are just being emailed - as opposed to goined to be printed - then compressing them makes no noticible difference, I find.
