Boot-up problem!!!

I will be very very grateful if Buenchico or anyone else can help me out here.
Yes,I have more faults to rectify....computers eh!
When they go wrong,they get on your nerves,don't they??

Anyway,my computer works pretty well,apart from a few niggly problems.
Right,the niggly problem I am having at the moment is the Booting-up process.As my original PC monitor died out on me a few weeks ago,my older brother gave me an old spare monitor which I connected up to my PC.It worked almost instantly,and the screen flickered a tiny bit.
I didn't mind that! But,when I switched it on again the following day,there was no life in the monitor whatsoever.
So I had two dead monitors lying on the floor of my lounge.
However,my eldest brother assured me that he had a spare monitor (which is much better than my other brothers one) which would be ideal.Although,when I look at some videos on YouTube they seem a little on the dark side even though the contrast and brightness is on maximum.I've even got the colour setting fairly high as well.
Anyway,the monitor that my eldest brother has given me gets it's own power supply from the power socket in the wall.It's a Hansol model. Then when I switch the computer and monitor on,this is always displayed at the beginning.It's on a bluish kind of screen,and says AwardBIOS Setup Utility.It does this every time I boot it up.I LOAD up the default settings and I also have to set the date and time as well.
It gets annoying having to do this every time.
Is there a way to get this fixed,or a way to bypass it??
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

dead bios battery on your mother board.

Take the case of, look for a round watch types battery (but a bit larger) pop it out make note of number, buy new one and replace.

Many thanks for the sound advice ChuckFickens.
I'm not really keen about poking around in my hard drive,as I might do some damage opening it up.
But,I will give it my best shot,and I will be utmost careful.

I presume I can get one of these at a computer dealer shop.Thanks again!

I think you have some of your teminology wrong, it is not inside your hard drive.

The battery is on the main circuit board in the computer, called a motherboard.

The battery will look like this

As long as you just take it out, replace it with a new one, and touch nothing else, you can do no harm.

if the battery is propper dead chuck and vhg are right - there's is by far the best solution ...

if you don't fancy doing it ... get john boy to take a look

On some mobos the battery is welded to the holder .... looks like it will come out .... but it won't.

an alternative is just leave the pc running overnight ... it may charge the battery (and it might not!).

I think I might go on a course sometime to gain more knowledge of the inside of a computer.
Maybe then I will be able to help someone else out with a problem.
The computer I have is a Microsoft Windows XP
AMD Athlon.
I think the first thing I will try is to take ACtheTROLLS advice and leave my PC running overnight.That might sort it out.If not,well then I will have to prise my computer apart.
