Cannot read attachments

Sorry to repeat the question but i'm getting nowhere with this problem, .pdf attachments open ok, .dat, .gif, .png, .jpg all will not open, i have to use a friends PC or the library so its difficult changing settings, can i somehow read all these attachments or do i just give up? they all seem to be blocked and i do not know what to select to read them! obviously a security issue?

you need to add some detail

attachments to what?
what operating system
what (if any) graphics viewers are installed

nor certain why dat... what are you expecting a dat file to do

Hi ACtheTroll, The attachments are on emails that people send me, operating system i think is windows XP, graphics i don't know! This is a fairly recent problem, always used to be able to open attachments, but seems to be many different types now?

willing to bet two things here...

1) The default image viewer has been uninstalled

2) the dat files are winmail.dat

install irfenview and it should sort out the image viewer problem

and ignore the winmail.dat attachments, they are just rubbish that some MS mail software attaches to mails.

oh and also djtdjt (how do you pronounce that!!)

when you install irfanview make sure you click on images only on the file association screen during the install, and also take the ticks out of the boxes on the "do you want to install google toolbar and google desktop search" screen
