I have just purchased a freecom 750gb hard drive and installed it. I purchased this because I had a problem with a pc breakdown and lost everything. The instructions are sparse. I think I have backed up but don't know how to check up what I have done and what is on the hard drive. Also may have done this more than once, have I duplicated the proceedure or does a second back up superceed the first one.

Vista or XP?

Vista
ide or sata?
and you say you have "backed up" but what exactly did you use to create the backup?
I think it's an external usb hard drive, Ace.

I don't know Vista at all.
I think VHG's question is the one

backups are (or should be) ongoing ...
once a day or week or month ... or just when you add new stuff

3 types of backup
complete - complete
incremental - after complete just adds changes to seperate file
differential - compares now with last ... updates the whole backup
