deletion of unwanted files
does anyone know how (even if it is possible) to delete, once and for all, those files which have already gone through the normal 'delete into recycle bin', which has subsequently been emtied? I have a PC which I want to give to charity, but there are some personal files which Ido not want some clever dick to regenerate. I know you can buy program which 'wipe' the haed drive, but can any of these be selective?

If you want to wipe the disk completely, ZebUK is right - use DBAN.
If you want to leave the operating system and other software on the machine, get a program called Eraser - the download link is here. It will wipe the free space on your disk and there are various options as to the number of passes it does. Just remember that it can take a long time to wipe all the free space on a disk !
