Activating my copy of windows xp???

After since putting xp on my laptop every time i switch on the computer i get a windows message saying : \this version of windows must be activted by windows and i need to register everytime i come on.. I have no idea how to resolve this!! Can anyone help?

activate it maybe!

make sure you are connected to the internet and click the message (or the icon down in the system tray) select activate over the internet and let it do it's thing (you don't have to register with Microsoft so you can select no when it asks you that)

if it's a legit copy of windows it will activate and the message will go away.

Ok so i'm guessing it's not a legit copy then cos it keeps coming back, and there's no way i wanna take it anywhere to get it fixed, i'm wanting to try this on my own.. Can i have anymore help?

If it is not a legit copy then if you cant or dont activate it then it will stop working in 30 days.

i have activated it but it keeps coming up with that all the time .. how do i check if its actually activated, i actually let my friend take it too someone too fix it, and now this has happened.. and i can't fix it.. :(

Buy a legal copy of XP perhaps ?

Looks like whoever "fixed" it has installed an illegal copy.
Was it xp originally?
Do you have the serial key number on a sticker on the laptop somewhere? maybe underneath.
It`s a series of 5 letters and numbers that will look something like this.
XJG5R-QV43J-TH57R-HDRUE-F5E2R

XP can no longer be purchased new except as a downgrade from Vista provided by some computer companies on new computers.

If you bought it online somewhere then you have probably been ripped off.

Try looking up a fix on google. There are plenty out there. You will never be bothered again then. Or simply aquire another copy with a crack from the interweb and re-install.
