I've asked this question before but none of the replies work. So is there any other way to get the address bar the one with the forward and back arrows back. (It's not in the toolbar menu and its not becaues of full screen mode).

Have you ticked all of the toolbars on to see if it comes back? It should be either address or standard.

Yes I've tried everything anyone with moderate IT skills would try.
Thanks anyway.
this must be IE7 I guess (as you can't disable the address bar in IE8)

have you dragged the address bar off the edge?

Right click in a empty part where the address bar should be, firstly check you have got a tick next to address bar (it might be under view > toolbars when you right click)

if you have got a tick next to address bar, right click again and make sure there is not a tick next to lock toolbars. then have a look for a vertical line of dots (very faint!) on the right side of the top bar, if there is one there click on it and drag to the left to see what it is.

Still no joy. It is IE8 though I've checked in "programes and features". About the only thing I have not tried is reinstalling IE8. Any other ideas?
odd, ok humor me and try this...

click tools > internet options

then select the content tab, under the auto complete section click settings and put a tick in all options.

Click OK a couple of times see what happens..

If that doesn't work, then tools > internet options again, click the advanced tab, and then click on the reset to default button.

if still no joy, yeah try removing it and installing it again.

Nope no luck, but thanks anyway. I think I will leave it till tomorrow to try reinstalling it. I will post the outcome here.
few tries
reset all ie security policies (tools | internet options)

clear the temp files from private browsing history .... all of them
(tools | internet options | browsing history | delete)

open file explorer
is the address bar there ?
if not
tools | folder options | view | tick disply full path

then type an url into the address bar - in IE8 it should open a new tab (hopefully with an address bar??)

finally - remove ie8
see how 7 performs - re-install 8 (if you dare)
finally finally
try
http://www.x-setup.net/
try shifting the menu bar position (I know but it affects the address bar
internet | ie | appearance
this could go on forever - you need to reboot for every change (except file manager)

Thanx for the ideas but still no address bar. I haven't tried changing to IE7 yet. I think I will leave it as it is, I can still go back or forward with the "alt+(direction key)" and that was the main reason I wanted the address bar back.
Thanx Owen
Are you able to post a screenshot of your PC and it might be clearer to us?
Just an off-chance suggestion.
Right click a blank space on the MENU bar (at the top of the screen) and see if the "lock the tool bars" is ticked.
If it is, then untick it and see if you can now re-instate the address bar.
Just a thought!!!

I'm not sure how I'd go about putting a screen shot up. I tried using a web cam and then draging the file into this box but all that appeared was a little line. Basically at the top of IE it has the internet explorer "e" then http://www.the addressbank.co.uk/ -Internet explorer in The AnswerBank: Technology: Computers: - Windows Internet Explorer
Then at the end the X button and the other two buttons. Under that I have the toolbars starting with the menu bar.

I just thought I'd let you know that the probem I had with my address bar I managed to get fixed. I had to delete a couple of registry entries. HKEY_Current_User/Sofware/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Toolbar
and
HKEY_Current_User/Software/Policies/Internet Explorer/Toolbars/Restrictions
But thanks to the people that tried to help. It's suprising how straight forward the registry is when you've got a rough idea whats going on.
