i am having trouble with the colour settings when i click on a dark red to use for example it comes out alot lighter than what i want it looks like i'm getting about 20% of the colour i need can somebody tell me what i have to click to get the colour i want

1). Do you mean that the colour that comes off your printer is a lot lighter than you expect? If this is the case, have you got the printer options set to Best (rather than Normal or Draft - or whatever they are called in Photoshop)? Also is your printer cartridge full? Try printing a test page.
2). Have you adjusted the gamma settings on your monitor? Your Photo software should have a Colour Management option, probably under the File menu.
