why can't you download it - it's just a file like any other
Do you mean upload rather than download?
I know some social networking sites will only allow photos to be posted to profiles in jpg form.
If this is what you are trying to do you should be able to open the picture in the built in picture viewer in Windows and then resave it as a jpg format using the drop-down box in the viewer.

Yes, sorry, uploading. Tried that but the ..select file type.. box is ghosted so won't let me select anything..only option is to change its name before I save it.
Try downloading and using this program:
http://www.gimp.org/

It is freeware so won't cost you anything and is also easy to use.
daffy,

Gimp is great, and I am a big fan of it, but I think to say it's "easy to use" is pushing it a little bit, and it's a bit of overkill just to change a pic to a jpeg.

Allie,

just click start > run and type mspaint in the run box and hit enter. When paint loads click on the file menu and select load, browse to the location of the file you want to convert and select it. Then, when it's opened, click file and select save as, change the file type to JPEG and click OK and it will save another copy of the picture in JPEG format for you.
I suppose I am used to far more complicated programs such as Photoshop/Corel software.
Sorry for misleading you ailie.

Thanx guys, Chucky that worked a treat.
Now, it's the wrong size so still not being accepted! aaaargh!
I'm pushing my luck here I know but...how can I make it 250x250 pixels?
I can, But, 250x250 is really small for a picture so it will look pretty rubbish, also as 250x250 is going to be square and your original picture is probably not square it will squish it in one direction so things might look a little strange.

but if you want to do it.... go here

http://www.picresize.com/

Click browse, select your picture (the jpeg version) then click quick resize just under the browse button. make sure you select custom size and then pixels from both the height and width drop down thingies, put 250 in both height and width and click resize at the bottom of the page, it will take a few seconds then on the next page select save to disk, save it somewhere you can find it and you'll have a 250x250 pixel version of the picture.

If you're trying to upload with an email - upload it as 'file' rather than photo
