Windows 7 Ultimate
When you install Windows 7, do you have to format your computer first with a fresh install? or can you just overwrite my Windows XP Pro?

I've been using Windows 7 Release Candidate for about 2 months now, according to Micro$oft you do need to reformat the drive, which I have done.
My only advice is to make sure you back up all your data.

Windows 7 seems very stable using it with various software like adobe acrobat M$ office, Nero 8 et al... all seem to function very well.
With Windows 7 and dependant on your machine spec it also installs very quickly compared to Windows XP and Vista. I have it running on two machines 1 notepad with an atom processor and another high end (quad core intel 4gb ram 1gb video and 2tb hd) the notepad installed windowa in about 15 mins and my high spec just about 8 mins.

I'd never upgrade ... you are keeping all the bad stuff as well as good stuff
�60+ for a decent HDD (for desktop) or )for lappy) a usb drive - and you are sound
also
pc pro has a free partition manager this month ... or was it computer shopper ....
shrink your C:\ - split the drive into two partitions (c:\ and d:\) ... shift all your stuff to the new D: drive ...
that way you won't loose everything ever again (you still need to backup ypur stuff though --- 7 is a big big change
have you checked to see if your machine is up to the job ... most Vista problems were because ppl tried to fit it into machines that just weren't up to it
