Excel, percentages, help!

For a simple explanation, I have a list of data in column A. This consists of letters A,B,C,D,E. There are 25 entries. What I would like to do is calculate the percetage of their occurance in a totals box.
Anyone shed any light?!

how about using formulas COUNIF & COUNTA
suppoose entries are in coulumn a form A1 to aA25
=COUNTIF(A1:A25,"a") / COUNTA(A1:A25)
then change the number format for the cell to show percentage

fogot to add formual is for counting occurences of "a" it can be adapted for other letters.

Great, that appears to work, thanks. One thing extra though, if I were to need to essential check from cells A1:A10, skip row 11, then check again from A12:A15, then skip row 16 and check area A17:A25....how would i do this?

I have tried adding an '&' between the areas, but with no luck....

OK, I have sussed that using colons...

Big problem now, if some of the data reads as 'N/A', am I able to have a formula that discounts this data from the percentages? Problem I have is if this data then gets changed back from 'N/A' to 'A', the percentage needs to reflect this? The date being entered is from a drop down...A,B,C,D,E and N/A. Only those with A-E need apply, NOT N/A. Confused?! Me too!
