For a number of years I have had the messenger on my computer installed but when I wanted to lock in today to talk to somebody in Australia they told me I had to download the latest version. They would not let me use my installed version. I downloaded as asked, it was installed but now I found that it has disappeared altogether. My icon has also disappeared. I searched all over but just cannot find it.
I am very disappointed as the whole process lasted about 40 minutes even though I have usually been able to download anything very quickly.
What on earth could have happened? I am desperate to talk to that friend tomorrow Monday but how?

Cant help, on this one sorry, but I have a similar problem. I have an Asus Eee Pc operating on Linux and I have the same message about an obligatory update, but follow the links and the download and I get nowhere. If anyone has the answers I would also like to hear. Thanks
If you can live with just text chat (no voice or camera and no display picture) you could try using Pidgin as an alternative.

I was using MSN messenger earlier today (version 8.5.whatever) and got a silly message saying the latest version was available, but I ignored the message and it worked fine anyway.
