CS4 Icons - Snow Leopard

Hi, since installing Snow Leopard my Photoshop and Illustrator created eps files no longer show the correct icons and all eps files when double clicked just open in Photoshop. I have had this problem before and there was a corrective action to fix this but I can\'t for the life of me remember how to do it, or find the solution.

Any ideas?

I haven't upgraded to Snow Leopard myself so I don't know if the Mac OS would be the cause of the problems.
You could however try a couple things to see if this fixes the applications icons and EPS file opening issues.

First, correct your Disk Permissions. This is done using the Disk Utility Application found in the Applications Folder and then inside the Utilities Folder.
Launch Disk Utility and then click on the First Aid tab. Select your "Macintosh HD" and then click the Verify Disk Permissions button. When this is completed click on the Repair Disk Permissions button. When this task is completed Quit and Restart your Mac.

Second, to stop your EPS files opening in Photoshop. Click once on the icon to highlight the icon and from the Finder Menu go to FILE > GET INFO. From the Info Palette - go to OPEN WITH and change this to Illustrator.
To change multiple files just select all the icons you want to change and then hold down the Options key (alt) while selecting Get Info.

It's worth a try. Hope this helps in some way.

You want to do the above, that is, pressing command-I to get info on that file, and changing the program that opens that file type. Apply it to all files of that type.

There is a change in Snow Leopard however, that may be affecting you.

Previously, developers could say that a certain file was made with a certain program, so that opening that file would open it with that program.

With Snow Leopard, like on other systems, a certain file type will open with a certain program (which may or may not be the progarm the file was created with).

I create and open a lot of files with all of the CS4 suite and don't want to go down the route of changing the default program, this causes me headaches when Illustrator files open with Photoshop and vice versa, I also create eps files from InDesign and some times have to edit them in Illustrator, they always used to open in the correct app but now just revert to Photoshop. It is very important for my work that the eps files open in the correct application that created them and that I don't have to guess or try opening them first.

I have ran disk utility, maintenance and various "clean up" programs but to no avail. There was a script I ran in terminal that I used in Tiger for the same problem which I mentioned in my question, but cant find it, was hoping to locate that really.

Then I think you're going to be disappointed, because creator codes were removed from Snow Leopard.

That explains the issues quite well.

Using the get info dialog will allow you to associate file types with a certain program --- this is the best you'll be able to do.

If you want to open a file with another program, either right-click and "open with...", or drag the file onto the app's icon in the dock.

Thanks fo3nix, yeah thats what I have been having to do, such a ball ache though. I'm not overly impressed with CS4, lots of great new features but it has lost some great ones too, I'm still running CS3 as well just because of this.
