Windows Live OneCare?
Well, it seems I have once again been led down the garden path. This time by Microsoft. For over a year I have been using this software to tune-up, back-up and protect my PC. A few months ago they informed me that they were extending my subscription for six months, and I thought, "What a nice surprise."
Yesterday, I received my Windows 7 upgrade from Dell and installed it with very little trouble.............................except...
......................Windows
Live OneCare
Windows 7, does not support it, and got into a he** of a tizzzzzy. However, it sought a solution off the Internet and the best it could do was install and run a cleanup program which removed all traces of OneCare. I Googled and checked FAQ's at Microsoft, Didn't see any 'this is what you do' So I sent them an e-mail last night, which they acknowledged with a ref number == still waiting for a reply.
Did a bit more checking and suddenly found all sorts of people complaining that OneCare is going to be replaced with something completely different and it won't be compatable with OneCare.
Now my significant aggravation is, I have all my data files and picture files backed-up in OneCare format. I cannot see any way of getting it back. I did keep a lot on DVD while I was working but there are dozens of files, stored to a huge number of DVDs, I kept during 'work in progress'.
Sure would appreciate if anyone could come up with a straightforward idea. I don't think I can afford to buy a laptop with non-windows 7 OS, just to retrieve the files.... Surely, in this day, there must be a way I can at least read them
Also, what's the flavour of the month for good, reliable tune-up backup and security software? Right now I'm using a Yahoo! version of McAffee
Thanks for listening to the ramblings of an
