Easy one --- RE: Windows 7
When I switch-on in the morning I get the question regarding my external HDD,
What software do you want to use to open this folder/file?
And it gives various applications on a menu.....
I remember in XP there was a folder/file default setup which you could answer such questions and set up defalults for the files to display in various ways when accessed.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Anyone got any ideas about how I can setup files and folders defaults in Win 7?
Thanks for any advice
Old Salt....................still not quite there

Does your external HDD have its own power supply?
What I've discovered (at least in my own case) is that if the HDD is powered from the USB port, it doesn't get initialised until Windows is up and running - in which Autoplay runs.
If the HDD is externally powered it get initialised at boot time, so when Windows starts the drive is already running, and Autoplay doesn't run (unless I power on and off, or disconnect and reconnect).
