Afternoon !!
Got a coupleof flash drives (Daneelec 4Gb and a maxell 1Gb) that when I put them into the USB port on my PC (XP Home), the PC doesn't always "seem to know they are there". (Nothing shows up in My Computer as a removable drive). If it does recognise one of them, after "safely removing hardware", it doesn't then recognise the other flash drive ! All seems OK on my laptop (also XP Home). Not a real problem, but annoying. Any ideas anybody ?? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Insert Flash drives in USB port, open My Computer and it should show.
Your PC ports are most likely dirty. Put the memory stick in a few times to clean them out. Do this with it switched off. You can also insert them into existing used ports to see if it recognises them - they are not being seen because they are not making a proper connection - if it doesn't,then don't rule out the possibility that the one it doesn't 'see' could be faulty!

Thanks for your answers chaps. One of the "dongles" works absolutely fine in any USB port and is immediately recognised, but no matter what I do, the Maxell dongle just isn't recognised. I am assuming therefore that it is cream crackered. If you have any further thoughts I would gladly receive them !!
Thanks again

eprovided, although your answer may be helpful in a way (though not sure where you will find a device driver for a USB memory stick) I am afraid that advertising is against Site Rules.
