I recently installed Network Magic in an attempt to get a network up and running. However, it disabled my LAN and then proved impossible to uninstall. It has installed something called Pure Network Platform which refuses to be deleted, and as well as disabling the LAN has also disabled the System Restore so I can’t get back to where I was before I installed it. No matter which Restore Point I choose, Windows tells me that no files have changed so it will do nothing! The files and folders it has installed ( found by searching on date and time) are all in the System32 folder, so Vista thinks they are system files and won’t let me delete them. Is there any way of temporarily disabling the read only attribute bit so I can delete them?

I would try this:
First download and install Revo Uninstaller - which is FREE
Re- install Network Magic
Run Revo Uninstaller, select Network Magic and choose Advanced as the uninstall mode. After the standard uninstaller has finished, Revo will perform a fairly aggressive search for left-over registry entries, select them all and delete them....

Why are you unable to install it? everything I can see about it says it should uninstall fine by going into control panel then programs and features and removing it from there?
if thats not working you could try downloading ccleaner and installing it, then when you run it click on tools and see if the un-installer in ccleaner will remove it.
It would be far better to remove it the proper way than deleting files from the system folder, doing that is highly likely to cause major problems!

PC Optimizer Pro (which is what Ccleaner seems to be called these days) uninstaller can see "Pure Networks 11.2" but does not uninstall it. That's why after spending considerable time finding all the rogue files I need some way of deleting the un-deletable. If I can't get rid of these I can only think I'll have to bite the bullet and format and
re-install Windows. BTW I have Windows 7 arriving next week, will an upgrade installation overwrite the current System32 folder while leaving my programs intact?

Thanks Rojash...I did exactly what you said and Revo uninstalled a total of 46 files and put them in the trash can where they cannot cause any problems. Brilliant uninstaller!
Trying to empty the trash can only 6 files vanish, Windows tells me it can't remove the rest, so they are the ones that Windows Uninstall missed out first time around. It hasn't cured my problem though, so there must be something else amiss. I guess it could be the Homeplugs that carry the ethernet connection, so I will try connecting the laptop that way and see if it works. But thanks a lot for your brilliant advice.
