I have an irritating problem that I am sure I have fixed way back in the past, but I have forgotten how

I browse to an website in Explorer 8 and click on a link that points to a file that is of a type that is associated with a program on my pc. I want Explorer to start the associated program and pass it the downloaded file (like it would pass a zip file to Winzip for example)

But it doesn't

It just prompts me for a location to save the file to

Is this a security setting somewhere?

Please help - This is driving me crazy

Thanks

Whichever file type it is .. Open W Explorer, Folder Options/File Types ... select that file type .. Advanced option .. confirm open after download ..

Is this what you are talking about?
Or you always want he file to run from remote location? (That's a bad idea in my mind!)

Sorry, no

When I click on the link for the file, I want it to be downloaded and passed immediately to the associated program - even with the change you suggestedm, I am still only prompted to "Save" or "Cancel"

It's a secure file from a secure location so I have no problems with it being executed
