There are registry cleaners and then again there are registry cleaners.
In my experience most do not do as well as reinstalling your PC from scratch. Some can solve problems you are experiencing, but the reinstall tends to solve them with less risk. Some find things that are not a problem and claim it is, so probably worth avoiding those who scare you into thinking there is a problem, and want you to buy their product in order to solve it.
CC mentioned above is free, and does an adequate job. But don't fix what isn't causing you a problem.

Advanced System care has been downloaded by 35 million people if the website can be believed. If it didn't work I don't think that many people would have bothered with it. You don't need to have anything wrong wiith your PC to use it either. All it does is get rid of all the rubbish that's built up with normal use and returns your PC to a healthy condition. I for one think that's much better than reinstalling from scratch. Apart from that, how many people do you think would be able to reinstalling their PC scratch? I know quite a few who wouldn't have the faintest idea where to start.
