returning to desktop?

can anyone please tell me why is it if i leave my computer on a page then come back to it, its gone and returned to my desktop? also why is it that even tho ive signed into sites with passwords and ticked the keep me logged in, i still have to log in and put my password in? thanks a lot

From what you are saying it is not returning you to the desktop, it's returning you to the login screen.

You've not said what version of windows you are running though so it's impossible to tell you exactly how to stop it doing that.

It's also worth mentioning which browser you are using. IE8 seems to manage this pretty well, but Firefox has problems under Windows 7.

its returning me to the screen where you have the shortcuts. im using windows xp

Right click anywhere on the desktop, select properties, click on the screensaver tab and remove the tick from "on resume password protect"

what browser are you using and does it actually quit, or just minimise itself to the taskbar?

In the top left corner, does it say e.g. Windows Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome etc...?

Click help and select about and it will say what it is and what version

Try running your browser with no add-ons and see if that helps

Click start > all programs > accessories > system tools > internet explorer (no add-ons)

If that works then it's one of the add-ons you have causing the problems, in which case it's time to disable them all and then re-enable them one by one to find which is causing the problem
