I was working on a document and when I went to close it it said that it already existed and did I want to replace the existing file. I clicked on yes because I had made changes that I wanted to be saved.
A few minutes later I went to where it was saved (on an external drive) to open it again but it isn't there!
I have gone to my recent documents where the title shows up but when I click on it it says
"(name of the doc) cannot be found. Check your spelling or try a different path"
There isn't much point in me checking my spelling because it is showing it up exactly as the name it was saved under. And I have no idea what a path is to be honest.
I can't help you with finding your file but I can explain what is meant by a 'path'.
The 'path' is the route that the computer must take from the root directory (drive), through folders and sub-folders to locate the file.
e.g.
F:\documents\spreadsheets\June-accounts.xls
I nosed around and found something called a TMP file. I got it to open and hey presto my doc appeared.
However, beside the filename at the top of the Microsoft Word box it says "Compatability Mode". Should this bother me?
