I have an HP all in one printer fax scanner, that I don't use very often.........

but every time I come to use the printer itself I find the ink has dried up and I'm forking out more money for yet another cartridge. Does anyone else have this problem, and any ideas of how to overcome this.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Try putting the cartridge in a saucer of hot water (not boiling as this could buckle the plastic at the print head and damage the electrics) so that the print head only is in the water. Occasionally brush the print head with a small artist's paint brush. ( the brush is small, not the artist!)
Leave until the water is cool and then replace in printer and try the HP cleaning program. Repeat if necessary.
Alternatively hold the print head under the hot tap and use the artist's brush.
If successful, print a small photo or text file every two weeks as suggested above just to keep the ink flowing.
