Hi recordman,
I am assuming you are using XP
Click on Start and then Control Panel
Click on Performance and Maintenance then System
On the Advanced tab in Perfomance click Settings
On the Advanced tab under Vitual Memory click change
Under Drive [volume label] click the drive that contains the paging file
that you want to change
Under paging file for selected drive click to Custom size check box You can enter
the amount of memory you would like to reserve for virtual memory by entering the iniial and maximum size
Click Set
When you are prompted to restart your computer click yes
SPECIAL NOTE you chose the same amount for inital and maximum size This will stop the CPU from constatly changng the paging file
HOT TIP To stop the CPU from changing the paging file set both values the same
for example 500 and 500
The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM If your computer has 512 mb of ram then increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5x 512 = 768
You should have at least 2GB of fixed memory installed for good performance
