Whrn I turn on my pc I get two messages:
1.initialising ERROR 0271 check date and time
2 ERROR 0251 system CMOS checksum bad - default configuration used.

It then continues PRESS (del) to setup press F1 to continue
I have tried doing both but cannot get the time and date to remain constant. Each time I turn my pc on the message appears and the date has returned to 2001!!
Can anyone help?

Your computer needs a new CMOS battery.
There is a small internal battery - the CMOS battery - sounds like it's on its last legs.
It's in a different place on every PC - what make/model is it?
I agree. It's your battery. Mine used to do that.
Without the battery, it won't remember the date and time.
