Anyone know of downloadable drawing software [pref free]?

Looking for some software to help draw plans of jobs indoors and in the garden.

Not really worried if it's 3D or not [it'd be nice, but not essential]. More something I can key in the measurements so I can calculate how much stuff I need to buy, print various bits of the plan etc. Any ideas, please?
