How do I restart my computer

When I am about to close my computer down. there are 3 choices Stand By ,Turnoff & Restart. when I choose StandBy ,the screen is blank ,how do I start the computer again.Thank you all..

yeh mine does that (xp pro) when i use stand by, it switches off in a couple of seconds and i mean OFF i have to do a restart too

What you call "the on switch" is not like a light switch. When you press and release it, it sends a signal to the computer which processes it according to its (the computer's) current state.
