WLAN button on laptop

I have a Medion laptop, running Vista.

It has a WLAN button that enables or disables the wireless LAN function, the problem is that on start up, I have to wait for everything to load before I can press this button to connect to the internet.

Is this normal or will this in anyway leave my computer at risk?

this is normal, my g/f had a compaq and she had to wait for it to load up before it would turn on. she could press it on but it wouldn't light up or say on till it had loaded.
