I’ve had Google home page for a long time but I now find Google is getting far too invasive and I would now like to have O2 or perhaps Orange home page but I’m having difficulty in doing this. Any good recommended home pages or is it possible to have none? Any tips please?
Any good home pages is a subjective thing... a good home page to me might be crap to you, though I don't see how google is intrusive unless you are signed into igoogle (in which case just sign out)
You can have none, just set your home page to about:blank
You've not stated which browser you're using. I'll assume that it's Internet Explorer.
Go to the page you want as your home page. Click on Tools > Internet Options. Ensure that the 'General' tab is selected. Click on 'Use current' , 'Apply' and 'OK'.
If you'd rather simply have a blank page, start from any page, follow the instructions above but click on 'Use blank' instead of 'Use current'.
I have Firefox start with a blank page but use the homepage button to provide the quickest way of getting to the site I use most often, which currently is AB.
Thank you all. I honestly thought one had to have a homepage. I do find Google invasive because I never ask for certain facilities, they just seem to appear.
I also use Google mail which is even more invasive and I find that anything mentioned in an e.mail brings a flood of advertisements in respect of that item alongside my email pages which is a pain. I never had this happen with Outlook Express or other mails.
I did download Firefox and I thought it was good. However, I thought it might not be compatible with I.E. which I hesitant to get rid of in case I couldn’t get it back again. You can see that I like to leave well alone! I am now going to be brave and try everything suggested.. Thank you Abers, you always know all the answers!
You can download as many browsers as you like - Firefox, Opera, Safari and lots more.
You simply use your favourite instead of IE, you MUST NOT try to uninstall IE, simply don't use it.
This is a blank homepage.
