Re-naming folders on a usb stick

On my desktop PC ( a Dell Inspiron running Windows 7) when I try to rename a folder I get a blue screen of death, which makes installing new folders with sensible names an impossibility. I don't get this problem with the Windows 7 starter on my newly acquired netbook so I guess there must be a setting I need to change in the control panel, but which one? Can anyone help me out here please.

Have you got any backup software on your PC? (For example, Comodo Backup is known to cause this problem). If so, uninstall it and then run CCleaner:

Thanks Chris, I did have comodo installed, but haven't used it since I got W7 and its built in backup program. So its uninstalled, run Ccleaner and reboot and all now works just fine.
Thanks again, Geoff
What a perfect posting. A precise question - with computer and O/S included - and a perfect answer from one of our resident experts. It can't get any better than that. (°¿°)
