Tiscali connection
Connecting to Tiscali is difficult-eventually I connect after a number of error messages 630/619 (I think)-occasionally I will lose the connection whilst working. Broadband speeds vary fron 2.4? to 7 ish. Lost connection whilst typing this message!

anyhow, if it is the case you have a modem I'd seriously suggest contacting talk talk (tiscali don't exist any more) and asking them to send you a free router and you'll probably find it solves the problems.

i had problems connecting with my tiscali router from the second Talktalk took over kept ringing custmer services to see if i could get it sorted and they blamed my laptop everytime saying it wouldn't recognise the router! I tried my laptop at my parents who had a talktalk router and it worked perfectly everytime!
I rang customer services again to request a new talktalk router and they would only give me one if i paid £30 and signed up to a 18 month contract, they were told where the best place for their router was and i got an O2 one and have had faster broadband ever since ( talktalk said my line was limited to 5.4mbps yet o2 managed to give me 8mbps) for less money

If anyone sees this I have to report that the problem I had been experiencing seems to have cleared itself.(I don't have a router by the way). I can only assume the fault lay with tiscali-it is just too difficult to get help from them!!! Thank you again to ChuckFickens and danchip for your interest and help.
