missing smilies

when i receive an e-mail or a message on a forum with what should be a smiley on the end of the text all i get is a comer type mark or 2 comers and a dot
what's missing that will let me see these smiley's

Usually a setting on the forum settings to show smilies, etc.

thanks allbags but my e-mails arrive with the smiley's sent by my friends not showing also, just comas in there place

You've probably set your e-mail client to show plain text, but without knowing which e-mail client you use, it's difficult to advise you.
