have they dropped the little tags at the end of tweets which say what device was used to create it?

They still show it, but it depends on how you're using Twitter.

On the (new style) website you need to click on the > to the right of a tweet to load the tweet in the right hand pane. This should show how it was created.

Some Twitter apps show this, others don't.
