I have just returned a next to useless secondhand laptop/notebook for a refund and want advice on a small, back-up device for when travelling, to surf and get/send e-mails etc. i-phone?iPad? Kindle? Blackberry? Pay-as-you-go if possible. Any advice would be welcome! I have a wireless router at home, if this is relevant.

If you are travelling abroad you MUST make sure the device operates via wifi, otherwise you will spend a large fortune accessing the internet.
I love my Samsung netbook and my Blackberry Curve, I will be buying the Blackery Playbook in Juy.
It really is personal preference.

Thanks, hc4361. I guess I need to do more browsing on my desktop.

I returned a notebook which would not work in my area but PC World first said I couldn't just return it as it was not faulty, which was true, it was not faulty but as I pointed out '' it was not fit for purpose '', as set out in the trade description act.
I won the arguement but before buying anything make it clear you will bring it back if it does not do what you bought it for .
