strange behaviour on facebook
23 Answers
Hi. Somebody I know IRL has been displaying some rather odd behaviour on Facebook and I'm worried. Before I talk to others about it I need to be absolutely certain I'm not making a mistake due to not grasping the intricacies of the personalised privacy settings. My question is: Could it under any circumstances (any kind of settings) LOOK like somebody is talking to themselves on their wall even though they are not? In other words, is it possible that this person is in fact engaged in a dialogue that to ME looks like a monologue?
I'd rather not get into the circumstances. I'll deal with it. Just need to be sure I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing. Thanks!

It's just that when I study the options I can't figure out what kind of settings would have this effect. In my own privacy settings under "things I share" I have status, photos and posts set to "friends only" and yet I get "likes" (thumbs up) from non-friends on replies I post to friends' walls, and that's why my conclusion has so far been that FB define "posts" as things you post on your OWN wall. But your reply here certainly makes me question my conclusions... which is a good thing, as there's hope, then, that my friend hasn't lost their marbles completely. Sorry if I seem obsessive about it but I really am worried. I'd rather not explain any more than that, but bushbaby might I ask please just which box you've ticked to achieve this effect cos I really don't understand it...
I have pretty much everything on 'friends only'. I've also restricted things my friends share about me (you have to go into the 'customise settings' to do this) including friends status updates, wall posts etc that I have commented on. You can also control who can see posts made on your own wall by friends. There are loads of online tutorials about exactly which boxes have what end result.
