New Del laptop
I've managed to connect it to the wireless hub, BT infinity. Can anyone recommend a free, reliable anti-virus, firehall etc. please.

MSE picks up its virus updates through windows updates, which is probably what Tinkerpuss means.
I assume your using W7 and its own firewall is adequate for most peoples needs.

You need to download and install the programme from the above link. You are not secure with no anti virus product installed.
I'm surprised your Dell didn't come with a 12 month subscription to McAfee, they usually have some sort of AV product included in the price.
