twitter - dont get it

i just found someone i know on twitter and contacted them (i think)....

thing is, now ive thought of something personal i am interested in, but dont necessarily want everyone i know, to know that im interested in it.

so, if i start to follow the subject im interested in, will it show up on 'my page'?

at this stage i dont even know if i have 'a page'. but im imagining a facebook style precis of me and what i like/follow.

Yes, at your home page you can see the people and pages which you have liked and following in the list of the following. You can follow anything you link on the twitter but if you follow in which you are very interested and your profile based on then twitter will be helpful to increase the visitors on your profile.
