For the first time ever I have received a spam threat addressed to me. Is there anywhere I can forward this, to someone who that collates these things with a view to tracing the origins (perhaps even also with a view to assembling evidence toward prosecution) ?

Karl, do you mean a physical threat to your person? If so contact the Police.
if it's spam purporting to come from a bank or something like that, the bank itself may have an address to forward the email to. I have no idea how seriously they take such emails, though.
who's it from, Karl?
I got 23 spam emails in just one day yesterday.

Just delete it, there are hundreds and thousands of spam emails going round so you reporting one wont make much difference.

I know there is lots of spam around, I get enough of it myself. This one purports to come from a named individual and makes an accusation together with a threat of legal action - predictably, the attempt is to get me to open an attachment. This is the first time I have had anything so explicit and therefore feel it merits more than just deleting IF there is somewhere to send it to. We are led to believe there are authorities which attempt to work against sources, and certainly attempt to build up a picture of where the more unpleasant/sinister ones are located. I do not know how those authorities can be contacted, hence the question.
Nobody is going to do anything about it. Just delete it.

It will probably have been sent from a bot net machine so tracing it back to the sender won't help anyway.
I'd ignore it then, Karl - all they want is you to open the attachment, so they can get at your computer. Don't rise to it, just delete it.
i report some phishing ones to paypal and banks sometimes but I know it's pretty pointless. Certainly no-one will ever track down the senders. There are millions of these things sent out daily and I think it's virtually impossible to track them down. Sometimes they can close an account down but the spammers will have plenty of other IP addresses and email addresses
