I'm currently getting a download speed of 0.08 Mbps and an upload speed of 0.45 Mbps as confirmed by BT this afternoon. I'm 1.3km from the exhange , so I'm not expecting anything too quick but I was told when I took the contract that the line could support up 2.88Mbps.
Does this sound like there is a fault with the line, as I thought download speed was supposed to be faster than the upload speed?

You're kidding, right...?
28967ms is a touch on the high side :)
And that's just between the OP and the BBC!
TBH I didn't really look at the maximum RTT properly, I just glanced at the packet loss. although It would be good to know if D9 is on wireless or wired as using a wireless channel with really bad interference could cause this problem too.
Indeed. Maybe next door's got a new microwave... ;-)
Though the average of 83ms isn't too bad (it's a little high, but not drastically) so the 28s one would seem to be an exceptional RTT rather than the norm.

Back again, I was on a wireless connection before but now am connected via a cable.
I can't see the ADSL option on the hub page though, is it in ''port forwarding''?
Ah, it might be under "broadband" rather than ADSL, the page you want looks like this...

http://community.bt.c...iginal?v=mpbl-1&px=-1
also now you're on a cable to the hub (with the wireless turned off on the computer) try the speed test again.
Question Author
Think I've found it
Downstream 3,712 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
Question Author
Have run test again now I'm wired
Download 0.07mbps
Upload 0.25mbps
So that's not improved it then...

On the same page as you got the connection speeds what does it say under noise margin and line attenuation?

also, do you leave your hub on all the time, or turn it off when not in use, if you turn it off then basically, you shouldn't.... ADSL routers take a few days to sort out the best speed they can handle from the exchange and if you keep turning it off it will never set itself to the optimum speed.
Question Author
Sorry hadn't turned of wireless connection, will try again in a few minutes
How far from the exchange are you?

10 miles of copper cable wouldn't help!
Question Author
Noise margin (Down/Up) 5.8 dB / 17.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 56.0 dB / 31.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 18.6 dBm / 11.9 dBm

I leave the hub turned on all the time.
Question Author
I'm 1.3.km from the exchange according to BT.
Question Author
Have rerun test with the wireless turned off and I'm still getting
0.07mbps download
0.25mbps upload
Have you tried this? see what BT say you should get...

Sorry, that was in your OP!

RTBQ, venator!
It is looking like it's a line problem, that sort of attenuation figure is very high for 1.3KM from the exchange.

It would be nice to check the same figures with the router plugged into the test socket behind the main socket on the master socket just to make sure it's nothing inside your house causing the problem. (power off the router while changing over then turn it back on and leave it for about 1.5hours if you do test it this way)
