If, in the middle of writing a post for AB, I look for a reference, say an online dictionary, or the source of a fact on Internet Explorer, whatever I have already written disappears and I am unable to return to it, my text being lost forever. This would not happen if I was writing, for example, an email. Is this a fault within AB's construction or can this very annoying problem be avoided?

if you want to do things like that you have to open another tab to look for the new information. Then copy it into the AB one.
Strange. That's never happened to me. Could it be a browser issue? (I'm no expert, it has to be said.)
I can return to half written answers when looking something up, as long as I use different tabs.
Simply minimise AnswerBank while you search the other website.
The text in the AB reply box isn't saved anywhere until you press submit - so you need to open a second tab/window to do your reference search - then return to the AB tab/window to finish your reply.
I'm on a mac but I just pull up a fresh page and do what I need to do, then return to AB which is still sitting there waiting for me:-)
Agree with all the others - you need to open a new tab to go and search for something else. If you do that, when you come back to the AB tab, your writing should still be there.

PMSL Craft. (Look up the definition of the word "tab" in Northern parlance then compare same with your Avatar for further enlightenment [if you didn't already know])
mike, are you following craft round?
O.K. - now will someone explain to me how you do this thing - open a new tab - in words of one syllable please, I am not good at technology.

Which browser do you use?
If I'm writing a long post on AB (or other sites) I usually write it in Notepad then copy and paste into the site when I'm ready. Notepad won't quit without saving/asking and you can run it full screen, which makes writing easier.

If it's a short post then Notepad may be OTT but even so, you can "backup" your post to clipboard by hitting Ctrl-A Ctrl-C. Then if you lose it you can paste it back in ...
I just right click and copy the text if I think I'm in danger of losing it, then paste it when I come back. No need to use another application.
I'm only stalking Craft 'cos Mrs O's out at the bingo tonight.
What does that mean howard - as you can see I don't know the first thing about computers. Is it Google? Or is that my search engine. I am hopeless. How do I find out? Where can I look?
Howard means what are you using to view the Internet IE, Firefox, Chrome etc.
Are you using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or something else?
Are you on Internet Explorer, starby, or Firefox - those are two browsers, there are more.
Dunno - how do I find out?
on firefox if you look near the top where the title of the page you are on is written after the ab jellie people, there is a black + sign inside a small grey box, click that and another tab or page opens with your search engine home page, but you current page then will sit behind it, click on the tabs to change pages, it's like using a filing cabinet almost.
