Is there any way I can check that an email I've sent has been read?

depends on which email software you are using. As far as I remember you can in Outlook.
If you're using Outlook, go to 'Options' and you'll find it there.
I think if you go into email options you can select whether you want a 'message read receipt' for your emails. It just proves that your email has been received and displayed on recipients computer, not necessarily read.
Beware though - even if you request a read receipt, some people have their email software set up not to send a confirmation automatically. The only definite way to know is if they reply, or you ring them and ask if they've read it!
My set up definitely won't confirm 'email read'.
There is no way that you can check, factually, if anyone has ..read an e/mail. However, there is a means whereby, if you are using Window Programmes, a click of a button will send an e/mail with the following:-

"The sender has requested a response to indicate that you have read this message. Would you like to send a receipt?......Yes...No."

Consequently, a Yes response will assure one that the e/mail has been delivered, but is not a guarantee that the recipient has actually read the communication.

If you say what system you use for sending e/mails, I will do a little further research on the matter. In the meanwhile have a read of the following:-

http://email.about.co...dows_Live_Mail_OE.htm

Ron.
Also, if the person has read it in the preview pane and not actually opened the mail, this will not count as a read.

I ALWAYS say no to "The sender has requested a response to indicate that you have read this message. Would you like to send a receipt?......Yes...No." unless I see they have sent it to more than 50 people, in which case I click yes, hoping everyone does the same to fill their inbox to serve them right for demanding to know when I have read it.
There is not any way to check whether the email which was sent by you is being read or not because not any email application will provide this type of facility.
