Could someone please explain in simple terms what this means?
I was watching Montalbano on iPlayer when the streaming stopped and then I got this message.
Can you suggest what I should do? I have a TT router and was using iPad.
Many thanks

I get this message quite regularly.
I usually just refresh the page and it works again.
You basically don't seem to have a fast enough connection to handle the data.
Do you get a good connection on other devices?
It could just be a temporary drop. You need to test your connection to find out how fast it is.
It is free on this site:-

Thank you, sometimes
The site says|
Download 0.8 mps
52% slower than host average of 1.7 mps
4% faster than city average
72% slower than GB average of 2.9 mps
82% slower than index 5.7 mps
Have you any ad ice?

Who is your internet provider? That speed is very low and I would expect better almost anywhere in the UK. Have you tried resetting your router? If not, just unplug it from the power supply, wait at least 30 seconds and plug it back in.
Reference to 'width' may be more confusing than enlightening, but as sometimesit says, it's a case on not having to ability to move the vast amounts of data you are trying to get to your iPad from the Net. Your iPad ran out of received data and had to stop playing your video.

Unfamiliar with diifferent set-ups, but I figure the bottleneck causing the problem could be anywhere. Does your router normally cope ? If this is wireless to the iPad, is the signal ok ?
ps, can you test again on this site please:

No offence to sometimesit but i've never used the site they linked to and don't know whether I can trust it's accuracy.

You are right as all tests should be repeatable and check/verified.
I did a check before I posted the link and it worked OK for my connection.
I have Virgin Media at home and that is fast.
This problem could be very simple as Old_Geezer pointed out the location of the router could also be a factor.

It could be a wireless extender is needed.

That is a very useful app. The results from it are
Ping 73ms
Download 6.64 mps
Upload 0. 53 mps
To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what these mean. Are they good or bad?
That result seems more likely annemollie. I tested my speed on 3 different sites including the one sometimesit linked to and the other two said the same speed of about 18.00mbps, sometimesit's link said it was only 4.00mbps. That is what made me question the site's accuracy.
Ping 73ms
A small message to your iPad and the test destination received the result in just 73 millisecond (0.073s)

Download 6.64 mps
Your iPad is able to receive 6,640000 bits (of data) per second

Upload 0. 53 mps
Your iPad is able to send 530000 bits (of data) per second

I admire savvy people, as I can have problems with the washing machine controls!
Should I get a wireless extender? The reviews scare the day lights out of me, and I would be happy to go along with an AB recommendation.
However, I would have absolutely no idea what to do to set it up.
I have the router sited centrally in the house, but it is using the iPad in the bedroom that is foxing me.
However, the Victorians who built this house didn't have these problems!
All suggestions very welcome, please.

Apologies for all the however(s).
I had a similar problem last night and got the BBC advice which said if there was insufficient bandwidth it was possible to download the programme to 'iplayer desktop' first, and then watch it without interruption, but I haven't yet figured out how to do this, anyone know please?

I will watch the advice you get. It's great to have so much advice on AB from people who know what they are talking about. And I didn't see the end of Montalbano.
And if Apple would stop correcting my text ...
I would assume the BBC site has a link that allows you to download the file, which given they'd have ownership is generous of them. On clicking it I'd expect your PC/iPad/whatever to ask where you want to save it. On a drive of some sort. Once it has downloaded you should be able to click on it to run it.
That said I know nothing of 'iplayer desktop'. You may need to download and install this iPlayer application first ?
Question Author
My download speed is now only 2.90.
I have just discovered that if you google - bbc iplayer desktop - you get a link to do just that. As I'm outside the UK I can't do it on this PC, but I can on my laptop which has 'Expat Shield' installed, but don't have it to hand, someone try and let us know please?

I have just tried that, scrolled through acres of text, got nowhere, clicked download buttons on iPlayer icon, got nowhere.
