Internet/Website Search filters

I use Firefox Browser. Not sure which versions (how do you find this out? When using a search engine such as Google, if a word or words had even the slightest other meaning eg Blue Tits, the results would always include several porn type sites in addition to sites about birds/wildlife.

I haven't made any changes to settings (don't really no how to) but presume there are ways you can filter things out so a search is less likely to bring up unwanted sites.

I recently clicked something to download the latest version of Firefox, so perhaps this has included this type of filtering (good idea).

How do you set things up so that certain types of sites are filtered? Is there a kind of " parental control" with Firefox, or is this done in some other way to do with the ISP? Many thanks

Firefox is just a browser so has no control over what the search engine searches for or finds. Firefox is just "displaying" the google page, not controlling what Google finds.

All search engines have options to set the search level to various settings like "Safe" "Moderate" or "No filter".

Do a search with google (any search)

When the search results are displayed you see on the right a small "box" with a gear wheel inside it.

Select on this gear wheel and select "Search settings".

You see an option "SafeSearch Filters" which can be set as "No filtering", Moderate or Strict.

Set is as Strict and you should find you get less dodgy sites.

Forgot to say after selecting "Strict" you need to go to the bottom and select Save to save the setting

For Check Which Version Are you using Just Go on to Help tab click On It.
Now You can See The option about Firefox, in this they will show you which version are you using.
For Search Setting, Just type any word in search box and enter.
Now On right hand side you can see the the setting option, click on it and in that search option setting.
Now Select the filter as you want. Like Moderate or Strict.
And also you can stop unwanted sites there is option in that also.

I know what you mean countrykid. Just the other day, I was searching for "manholes" and nearly splurted my coffee out at some of the results :-)

If you use any of the browser and search engine, when you type a search query in the search box, the related sites will come within it, that is normal so these things are happening to you not for you have changed the setting or not because it is normal.
