We've recently changed ISP. The internet seems to be much slower than before. However, I can't remember what the connection speed was. When I go to the Wireless Network Connection icon, I get the reading of Speed: 54 Mbps. Is that what you would expect?

It's what I would expect from your wireless speed, yes.... but that's not your internet speed. You are looking at the speed of your computer's connection to your router, you need to know the speed of the routers connection to the internet.

You may still be in the stabilisation period - even though you had broadband before, since you have changed provider, your speed has to stabilise with them.

Thanks for the answers. What would you expect a decent broadband speed to be when it's tested using speedtest.net?
I would like to know that info too please. Thanks for link Chuck - my results are Download 6.91 mbps Upload 0.38 mbps. Is that a satisfactory speed? I always think it's running a bit slow - but maybe not.
"What would you expect a decent broadband speed to be when it's tested using speedtest.net?"

Impossible to answer as it will vary hugely depending on how far you are away from your local exchange.. but practically speaking anything over about 2Mb/s is plenty enough for day to day browsing and anything over about 4Mb/s will be enough for most online streaming services (such as Iplayer)

If you put your details in this site http://www.broadband-.../broadband-line-test/ it will tell you what sort of speed to expect on your line, as long as your speed is close to that then not much you can do.

(ann... assuming you are paying for an upto 8Mb service then nearly 7 is pretty good)
