IMO Norton antivirus *IS* a virus - it invades everything, hassles you all the time and is impossible to eradicate.

boxtops....It was maidup who asked the Ed for a Poll and has requested ABers...."Come on folks, get voting and tell us why you use what you use."

Hence the reason for my feeling a need to comment.

Ron.
MSE for us as it serves our needs and is unobtrusive
Used to get the odd trojan with AVG but since I tried Avast two years ago I have not had one problem. I have not tried MSE but it seems to be a popular one.
Yes please, all comments and experience welcome.

AVG might have be attracting the most votes but it doesn't mean everyone's happy with it. Any more for any more?

Interestingly Kaspersky receives the best reveiws!

Here's one for MSE. Microsoft Security Essentials protected our PC in 85 per cent of malware exposures. Admittedly, it only completely blocked 57 of 100 viruses, but it neutralised another 28 after the process of infection had begun. In 15 cases, it failed to protect us. That's better than having no protection at all, but 15 infections is not good. It did well in our false positive tests, only blocking one legitimate program, giving it a total accuracy rating of just 223.5.
Can you imagine how long it takes me to book a holiday!
I've used Norton since day one of owning a laptop and have never experienced a problem in 8 years. I'm doomed now of course.. :-(
After many years of paying for the latest Norton I'm now an advocate of MSE pretty much for the reasons as outline by others.

Would be good to hear from the tech-heads what in their opinion is the best.

Years ago a tech I knew used to swear by Sophos, but then again he was a re-seller....
"Interestingly Kaspersky receives the best reveiws!"
I wouldn't pay too much attention to reviews.
I installed Kaspersky on all my machines last year, and, while it may do a good job of protecting you, this comes at such expense in performance terms that I uninstalled it after a few days.
The problem with reviews is that the tests are carried out in completely artificial circumstances.
For those of you interested in comparisons of the various competing security suites available, you might find the following comprehensive review by PCMag of Interest;

They recommend Norton very highly. For myself, my laptop came with McAFee as a recommended, but I removed that and used AVG. Have since changed to Webroot Secure Anywhere Complete.
LazyGun..Your link is interesting....Interesting inasmuch as MSE isn't mentioned. However, I would be willing to lay a bet that the majority of AB Techs would recommend MSE for all home users.

The free version of AVG works very well.
non of those. I think Panda is THE best.

WR.
I can add over 1000 (1084 at last check to be precise) votes on a professional level and another 7 personal computers for MSE (or SCEP on a professional basis... but it's the same thing)

They did go about it in the normal heavy handed way, by buying some established AV companies (sybari and gecad) and incorporating them both into their own product.. but it ended up being pretty effective.
