Altavista Replacement

I always used AltaVista for its directness and simplicity. Example ; when I looked up my local council website it was always first on the list. Now that Google has taken over its is way down a long list as are so many other things. Is there a better search engine or do I have to put up with the columns of 'cultter' on Google?

Altavista was taken-over by Yahoo. Consequently you could use Yahoo as your default Search Engine, or any one of hundreds which are available.
