...I have a BT Infinity package with 40gb usage and its supplied with a HomeHub 3. An unlimited usage package would be supplied with a HomeHub 5...Can anyone tell me what differences I can expect to see between the two hubs. I've read up on a whole bunch of 'features' of the new hub but not much of the 'benefits'. Please help.

The HomeHub 5 is a big improvement on the HH3 and 4 and I'm hoping to upgrade to 5. No longer needing a separate modem the 5 has more ethernet connections and the router has a number of internal upgrades. Though upgrading to a Home Hub 5 doesn't mean that your internet speeds will get any better, I'm on Infinity 2 and I do have unlimited usage and speeds of 50GB but promised 72!

Thanks for that Jomlett .I have a speed of 35GB and when I asked about 'up to 72GB' I was told my exchange would only accept up to about 50GB and (here's the nice bit) the BT customer services person I was talking to advise me not to bother as I wouldn't really notice much difference between 35 and 50GB and not worth the increase in payment. Refreshingly frank, I thought.

Just been offered a free upgrade to Infinity, about to snatch their hand off!
;-)
The Fibre to the Home (FTTH) should speed things up but could take years to cover the country!

>>>just been offered a free upgrade

oops don't know what happened there....back to you Baldric, what do you have now??
To quote BT,

The upgrade really is free,
We'll upgrade you to BT Infinity for no extra monthly charge. There won't be any installation fees or hidden costs and the terms of your existing contract won't change.

Been with BT a while now, had a faulty hub2 replaced with another hub2 Xmas time, received this offer this week

Sorry, it's Total B/band option 3 atm.

That sounds wonderful. Will you be going from bt broadband to bt Infinity or are you already on Infinity...I only ask because Infinity requires some engineering work at your home in order to make it work and that is not free.
I have just upgraded to Infinity, they didn't charge anything extra & they sent a guy round to fit it ( it only took about 5 mins as they only add something to your existing wall socket.

Its Ok but have had to re set the box about 5 times since Xmas (it just logs you out of the internet) never had that trouble with my ancient BT modem.

>>reset the box
Question Author
reset the box....what box is that.

Not infinity atm, they do say in the letter an Engineer will have to call.

And they do say No installation fees as I said at 21:46 ^^
We upgraded from BT Broadband to Infinity a few months back - really pleased with it. We added BT Sport to the Infinity package too, so we get Channels 507-508 and we can watch the rugby.
^ and yes, the engineer had to get access to the house, but he was here all of 15 minutes.

Take a closer look Baldric...even if it does cost some it's well worth it. I went from 2gb download to 35gb,nothing buffers on streaming, sites appear (almost) instantaneously everything is as fast as I could want.
Janzman - the box I mean is the new infinity modem you have to have.
they did try to say it would be £35 instillation but I said I didn't want it then so they relented.

21:46 post is an exact quote from the letter, obviously I will check before confirming, but it's looking good.
